Just as the grass of the field and the flowers of the meadow are vibrant one day and gone the next. So also are all the people of this world. There will come a day when you will be here today and gone tomorrow. It is just the truth of the matter.
A voice says, “Cry!” And I said, “What shall I cry?” All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the LORD blows on it; surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. Isaiah 40:6-8
There is a God who lasts forever, who is above all things, and who holds all things together. There is a God who has created all things for a purpose and has designed you to be a part of that purpose. Yes, He has made you for a great and specific purpose.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
You may wonder who is this God and why does He matter to me? That is a very good question. God is the Creator of the Universe and His son is Jesus Christ. He loves you with everlasting love. No matter what you have done in your life, good or bad. He has cared for you each and every day of your life. You do matter to Him very much.
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all. Psalm 34:18-19
He stretches out His hands to you, giving you good gifts, though you may not even know it. He has surrounded you with His protection and loved you all the days of your life. He is the one who warms you with the sun and gives you joy, enjoyment, and happiness in your heart. All good things come from Him.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17
He is holding out His hands to receive you, extending a call to you. His greatest desire is to guide you on the way that is good and to save your soul.
I was ready to be sought by those who did not ask for me; I was ready to be found by those who did not seek me. I said, “Here I am, here I am,” to a nation that was not called by my name. I spread out my hands all the day to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own devices; Isaiah 65:1-2
But you must understand, that His great love and care came at a cost, and it is not what you might think it is. It cost Him dearly. It cost Him His only Son. God the Father had to cause His son Jesus Christ to pay a great price, so that you may be redeemed from your sins. You see all mankind has a very serious problem. That problem is called sin. Sin is when you break God’s Holy Law and His perfect ways. Typically called doing what is wrong.
For example, have you ever lied, stolen, or coveted others’ possessions or positions? Have you ever hated anyone or lusted after anyone? Have you ever dishonored or disobeyed your parents? These are only a sample of what is against the Law of God. There is no one on earth that has not broken His Law.
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10
Jesus Christ loved you so much that He paid for your sins on the cross, taking your punishment, the wrath of God that you deserved. Then He died, was buried, and rose again on the third day. Defeating sin and death so that you might be forgiven. That you may not have to pay for your own sins. That you may not go to Hell as your punishment.
But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by His blood, to be received by faith. Romans 3:21-25
Isn’t that amazing? Even when you were at your worst, God loved you. In spite of all your sins, He still loves you. Yes, again, Jesus Christ died for you. What amazing love. Have you ever been loved by someone so much that they would die for you? Even though you were their enemy they took your punishment? That is what God did and that is how much He loves you.
He is calling you today to lay down your life. To forsake your life of sin and rebellion against Him. He is calling you to confess, repent of your sins, and reject your lifestyle of sin. He is calling you to turn to Him and believe in Jesus Christ as your savior. To follow and obey Him by faith in every aspect of your life. Call out to Him today! He is waiting for you. Call out to Him right now. He promises that He will hear you and He will save you.
But understand this, if you do not follow and repent, you will have to pay for your sins yourself. He has prepared Hell for all those who sin. It is a place of torment and suffering. If you think it is bad here on earth, you have no idea what bad is. Everyone who does not get saved by Jesus will go there for all eternity. So there are only two options, Jesus or Hell. What will you do?
Thus says the LORD who made the earth, the LORD who formed it to establish it—the LORD is His name: Call to me and I will answer you, Jeremiah 33:2-3
If you chose to humble yourself and trust in Jesus by faith, He promises to forgive your sins, call you His son or daughter, and adopt you into the family of God. He promises to grant you eternal life in heaven and give you many gifts for your trust and faith in Him. If you trust in Him by faith, walk in His ways and commands, and never forsake Him, He will never forsake you. He is not like a man. He is like no other.
His love for you is so very great. He thought of you before the foundation of the earth. His love for you is higher than the mountains and deeper than the oceans. Please turn to Him today before your last day vanishes like a flower of the field.
Go on up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good news; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good news; lift it up, fear not; say to the cities of Judah, “Behold your God!” Behold, the Lord GOD comes with might, and His arm rules for Him; behold, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him. Isaiah 40:9-10
Isaiah 40 is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible. Thank you for this encouraging devotional.
