To love the Lord is to love others. To give to the Lord is to give to others. Those who truly have a deep and secure love and trust for the Lord will spread it to those who are in need. To those who are weak and weary, fearful and broken, and poor and needy.
To love unconditionally is to give bountifully.
Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed. Proverbs 19:17
Giving to others out of the generosity of your heart is giving to the Lord. God loves a cheerful giver. It is not about money or possessions, it is not about status or position, and it is not about the approval of others but the approval of God.
It is all about the position of your heart. What you are willing to sacrifice and to pour out upon others. It may be an encouraging word, a hopeful or helpful instruction, or it may be something tangible to help those who have very little to nothing.
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35
God sees into the inner recesses of the heart, mind, and soul. He knows and understands the reasons and motivations of your giving. He sees everything, there is nothing hidden from Him, everything is open and laid bare before the God of Heaven.
And no creature is hidden from His sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:13
Just as Jesus praised the poor widow who gave all she had to live on into the temple treasury. So also, He will praise and reward His humble servants for giving and sacrificing for others. His favor and pleasure will overflow upon those who the Lord sees have a loving and generous heart.
And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny.
And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.” Mark 12:41-44
