The Bountiful Heart

To truly love the Lord is to show love to others. To give to the Lord is to give to others. If you have His love, you will give. It is impossible to have His love and not reciprocate it with others. Those who genuinely have a deep and total love for God and a complete trust in God will distribute what they have been given to those in need.

The one given God’s love will seek to show it to the humble, weak, weary, fearful, broken, poor, and needy. Just as God Himself spreads His hands out with grace and mercy to those in need, both to the wicked and good. His giving hand is bountiful, and His love is unconditional. To love unconditionally is to give bountifully. Will you mirror His love?

Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay Him for His deed. Proverbs 19:17

Giving to others out of the generosity of your heart is giving to the Lord. God loves a cheerful giver. It is not about money. It is not about the things that are given. It is not about the cheers and applause given by men. It is about your motivation for your giving. That is where the reward comes from. It is about the position of your heart when you give. Giving without any thought or intent of being repaid in this life. It is only for the approval of God.

The question I pose to you is, are you willing to sacrifice what you deem as yours to pour out upon others? To give out of your riches or poverty that God has given you. God did not give you those things, talents, and abilities for you to keep them for yourself. But He has poured gifts out onto all mankind so that they may reach out to those who are in need to show unconditional and bountiful love.

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:6-8

God sees into the inner recesses of your heart, mind, and soul. He knows and understands the reasons and motivations behind any of your giving. He sees everything. There is nothing hidden from Him. Everything is open and laid bare before the God of Heaven. He knows if you are loving or stingy.

And no creature is hidden from His sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:13

Just as Jesus praised the poor widow who gave all she had to live on into the temple treasury. So also, He will praise and reward you for giving and sacrificing for others with a bountiful and loving heart. His pleasure, favor, and love will overflow upon you when He sees how selflessly and bountifully your heart has become from all the love you pour out upon others.

And He sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And He called His disciples to Him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.” Mark 12:41-44

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” John 13:34-35
