What has happened to the people of this world we live in? Why is it that they go about their business day in and day out and have no regard for the least of these? Most people do not care for the poor, hungry, needy, the broken. Even for those who are good, honest, and trustworthy. They especially don’t care for the ways of God.
Most people have their family, home, job, comforts, and everything else the Lord has so graciously provided. He blesses all people with many good things. But they don’t give Him credit for it.
What have you done with what you have been given? Do you look around at the less fortunate and figure out how you could help them? Do you see the pain, suffering, and hunger of those less fortunate than you? Do you sacrifice and open your hands or wallet to help those in need? God loves a cheerful giver.
These are really good questions to stop and consider. How often do we spend all we gain from a paycheck, not sparing any to help those who are truly in need? Think about all the possessions that you have. Do you really need all that stuff? I guarantee you could survive and thrive with much less. I for one can attest to this fact. I do not need all the extra.
As it is, everything you have acquired is only temporary. The Bible describes even our lives as a mist that is here in the morning and fades as the sun rises. The wealth of this world is very similar. You will never be able to take one thing from this world to the grave. As they say, “here today, gone tomorrow.” How will you spend what the Lord has given you, for yourself or help others?
Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist. When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven. Proverbs 23:4-5
Open your eyes and hands to those around you who are truly in need. Look to the Lord for what you should do with it. Not to the churches and those who are already well off and prosperous. If you give to others with a pure heart, you in fact are giving to the Lord. He sees what is done out of purity and will reward it.
Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Matthew 19:21
Give to those who are hurting, poor, voiceless, in bondage, and broken. Especially give to those who have nothing. To those who are seeking to serve the Lord with every fiber in their being, with everything they have, and more.
Those who deserve it most are the true followers of Christ that seek to honor the Lord with all they have. Having nothing of this world, yet giving everything, no matter how large or little they have. God looks favorably upon those who lay down their lives for others and for the sake of the call that they have received from the Lord. They are highly honored in the eyes of the Lord. It doesn’t take wealth to do great things, but it takes availability, willingness, and a giving heart.
Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Luke 6:30 And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings. Luke 16:9
Stop spending your money on the worthless things of this world. Stop spending it on yourself, your selfish needs, or for your own gain. Honestly, you are gaining nothing. Yes, you heard me correctly. You are earning nothing for eternity when you horde what you have for yourself. It ends up being a complete waste.
“Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And delight yourself in abundance. Isaiah 55:2
Build up treasures in heaven with what you have now. Give to the Lord by giving to those who truly need it. What you give to the least of these you give to the Lord. Let the Lord have your entire life, your entire world, and all that you have. Give it all for the furtherance of the Kingdom of God.
There is nothing wrong with building up treasures in Heaven. It is what Jesus said to do. What an honor it will be when He greets you into His Glory. When He showers upon you all the rewards you have earned by being a cheerful giver on earth.
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21
So thankful of the reminder that what we get is well spent on others not ourselves. Thanks for the reminder.
