Built On Sand Or Stone

Seek to build up treasures in heaven where no one can break in and steal. Where the value of what you possess never fades or wears out. Where nothing and no one will ever take them away from you. God resides and will lavish you with great rewards, joys, and pleasures your imagination could never fathom when you follow and obey Him.

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21

You are not here for all the pleasures and riches of this world. Who you are is not defined by the house you own, the car you drive, or the family that surrounds you. It is not the things you have, the profession you have established, the admiration of crowds, the cheers of those who look up to you, or the power you possess in any position you hold.

Suppose these things keep you going throughout the days, months, and years. In that case, you are building an empire of sand, a castle established of instability, constructed on the edge of a mighty ocean. It is only a matter before the waves of time lap, rage, and surge upon your kingdom’s walls and wash them away.

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall because it had been founded on the rock.

And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” Matthew 7:24-27

There will come a day when God will ask you to give it all up for His call on your life, or you will lose everything you have saved. God is asking His servants to sacrifice the things of this world in exchange for what is much better. So give your possessions, hopes, dreams, and your soul to Jesus Christ for His will and plan. He will reward those who give it all up for Him with eternal rewards that no man could fathom.

If you do not give up the things of this world, they will be taken in a moment, swept away by the tide, and crumbled by the hand of time. All the great things you may have done and your accomplishments, though they may have been good and noteworthy, will all be for nothing. Do you not see that the things of this world are temporary?

Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. Matthew 10:37-39

Great will be your sorrow on that day if you do not choose right now, beforehand, to follow the Lord Jesus Christ with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Yes, with everything that is within you.

I spread out my hands all the day to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own devices; Isaiah 65:2

Do not worry or be anxious about what you have or what you may gain in the future. God will provide for all your needs. He is more concerned with the genuineness of your heart and the devotion of your life and soul to His will and plan. Your willingness to give it all for the sake of His call and the work He has placed before you to do is of great value to Him.

You are here to do His will, not for yourself, but for others. Those who are weak, lost, broken, and desperate need to know that God loves them and that He died for their sins. Follow Him wherever He leads. Give to Him whatever He asks. Devote to Him everything you have and everything that you can be. Then, ask Him what you need according to His will, wait for it, and He will hear and act.

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, it will be opened.

Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! Matthew 7:7-11
