Is There A God

There is one topic that causes the vast majority of people to consider at some time in their life. Is there a God and what implications are there for us if His existence? Many people immediately dismiss this possibility, others believe it right away, yet others are in between these two groups, and just are not sure if He is real.

Why do you think many don’t believe in God? Or maybe they do believe there is a higher power of some kind, but they don’t want to believe in the God that the Bible describes? There are others that believe God is real but they have an inaccurate assessment of who He is and what He does. There is a clear and obvious answer that many desire to avoid.

Answer: Moral ObligationA duty which one owes, and which he ought to perform, but which he is not legally bound to fulfill.

If there is a God that is in control of all things, who created you with morality, and a sense of right and wrong, you would be morally obligated to obey His Laws that He has given His creation to obey. That is bothersome for those who do not like His Law. Those who enjoy rebellion, sin, and the pleasures of this world.

“And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.” John 3:19-21

But the truth is, there is an Almighty God who created all things and commands all mankind to obey His Law. He has even given you a conscience, instilled within your soul that you may know the difference between good and evil, right and wrong. Your conscience is daily bearing witness against your sins, showing you that you in fact are morally obligated to obey Him.

They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them. Romans 12:15

We can see the evidence that He exists in every corner of the universe. In the complexity of every animal, plant life, human eyes, and brain. We see His design in the solar system and the order of everything that is upon the earth and in every galaxy in the universe. As we look down at the microscopic images of an atom and out to the depths of space we see everything has an order, design, and purpose. It is impossible for any of it to happen by chance. Let alone the sheer volume that fills the mind and eye.

You can deny God’s existence, just a blind man can deny the existence of the sun because he can’t see it. But the evidence of the warmth on his face can not be disproven. Since this evidence is all around us and is irrefutable that God is real, His Law and Justice, as well, are personally binding. He has given everyone a choice to believe or not. But with that choice comes consequences.

You have a choice, just like the Israelites did. Do not follow them and make the fatal mistake they did and disobey His commands. Death is a reality for everyone who sins and Hell is the punishment that awaits them. It has been prepared for those who rebel against His commands. Just as prison awaits those who break the laws of the land.

But there is hope, even for us sinners. God sent His son Jesus Christ to be your Savior. He took the punishment for your sins. He endured the Wrath of God’s Justice for sins, so you would not have to. He then died for the sins of the world, this includes yours and mine. Then three days later rose again from death, defeating sin and death, and making a way to be saved from Hell. He did all of this so that you could be forgiven because Jesus paid the price of your redemption.

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by His blood, much more shall we be saved by Him from the wrath of God. Romans 5:6-9

Now God is crying out to all mankind to come to Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins. He is calling to you to repentance, which is not only sorrow for breaking God’s Law but it is also turning from that wicked lifestyle of sin. You must repent for all your lies, thefts, lusts, hatred, adultery, murders, covetousness, idolatry, witchcraft, and every other kind of disobedience to God’s holy Law. If you didn’t know these come from God’s Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20)

He calls you to seek God and Jesus with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. To follow and obey Him in all you do, think, and desire.

God has said, “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the LORD your God that I command you today, by loving the LORD your God, by walking in His ways, and by keeping His commandments and His statutes and His rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.

But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the LORD your God, obeying His voice, and holding fast to Him, for He is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.” Deuteronomy 30:15-20

Turn to the Lord Jesus Christ today and choose life. God is waiting with open arms, like a father waiting for his rebellious son to come home. He longs to show you grace, mercy, and forgiveness. Don’t you understand that you are causing yourself very much harm and damage by following the ways of sin and disobedience? He gives you these commands for your benefit, not your harm. Restrictions and boundaries are for your protection, but if you run outside of the bounds of His Law you are only bringing upon yourself more pain.

But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have, for “Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.” “I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me.” “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.” Romans 12:18-21

He wants to heal you and bind up the wounds that you and the world have inflicted upon your being. He wants to bless you and give you a new mind and heart that you will want to obey Him. To restore to you the joy and peace He always intended to be yours. To grant you everlasting life in Heaven and a reward that will blow your mind for following and obeying Jesus as your Savior.

His reward for your decision is life instead of death, love instead of judgment, joy instead of sorrow, reward instead of punishment, mercy, and grace instead of justice, and so much more we cannot even imagine. How many of us enjoy the love, joy, peace, and kindness shown to them. The answer is everyone appreciates it when others are good to them. God wants to show goodness toward you. But you must repent, turn away from sin, and turn to Jesus. He is the only way to the Father and to the goodness that comes from the Lord.

Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures. James 1:16-18
