Is There A God

Do you ever wonder if there God exists? I believe this is one topic that many people have considered at some point in their lives. Is there a God, and what implications are there for you if He exists? Many people immediately dismiss this possibility, while others believe it right away. Many others are between these two groups, unsure if He is real.

Why do you think many don’t believe in God? Or maybe they do believe there is a higher power of some kind, but they don’t want to believe in the God that the Bible describes. Others believe God is real but have an inaccurate assessment of who He is and what He does, even knowing why and what we are here for. Putting all that aside, there is one main reason many do not want to believe He is real: it is our own sinful ways since God has revealed to us that we are to obey Him and His ways.

We find that this is called Moral Obligation, which is defined as “A duty which one owes and which he ought to perform, but which he is not legally bound to fulfill.” If God is real and is truly in control of all things, who created us with morality and a sense of right and wrong within our hearts, then we would be morally obligated to obey His Laws. That is bothersome for those who do not like His rules and enjoy rebellion, sin, and the pleasures of this world. We do not want to be told what to do. Do we?

“And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.” John 3:19-21

But the truth is God created all things and commanded all mankind to obey His Law. Because He is all about righteousness, He has even given us a conscience and instilled right and wrong within our souls so we may know the difference between good and evil. As a result, your conscience bears witness to your sins daily, showing you that you are morally obligated to obey Him. But will you?

They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them. Romans 12:15

We can see the evidence that God exists in every corner of the universe. If you are willing to look, you will see complexity in every animal, plant, human eye, and the brains of every creature, big and small. We see His design in the solar system, the order of everything upon the earth, and the laws that control each part of every galaxy in the universe. We see His intelligence by looking at the microscopic images of cells, molecules, and atoms. We see it when we look out to the depths of space, seeing everything with order, design, and purpose. It is impossible for any of it to happen by chance.

You can deny God’s existence, just as a blind man can deny the sun’s existence because he can’t see it. But he can not avoid the evidence of the warmth on his face. Since this evidence is all around us and is irrefutable that God is real, His Law and Justice, as well, are personally binding. He has given everyone a choice to believe or not. But with that choice comes consequences.

You have a choice, just like the Israelites did. Do not follow them and make the fatal mistake they did and disobey His commands. Death is a reality for everyone who sins, and Hell is the punishment that awaits the one who dies in disbelief. Unfortunately, God designates Hell for the devil and those who rebel against His commands, just as prison awaits those who break the laws of the land.

But there is hope, even for us sinners. God sent His son Jesus Christ to be your Savior. He took the punishment for your sins. He endured the Wrath of God’s justice so you would not have to go to Hell. He then died for the world’s sins, this includes yours and mine. Then, three days later rose again from death, defeating sin and death and making a way to be saved from Hell. He did all of this for you. Jesus paid the price of your redemption for your forgiveness.

For while we were still weak, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person, one would dare even to die— but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by His blood, much more shall we be saved by Him from the wrath of God. Romans 5:6-9

Now, God is crying out to all mankind to come to Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins. He is calling you to repentance, which is not only sorrow for breaking God’s Law but also turning from that wicked lifestyle of sin. You must repent for all your lies, thefts, lusts, hatred, adultery, murders, covetousness, idolatry, witchcraft, and disobedience to God’s holy Law.

If you don’t know His Law, they are the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20) He calls you to seek God and Jesus with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Follow and obey Him in all you do, think, and desire.

God has said, “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the LORD your God that I command you today, by loving the LORD your God, by walking in His ways, and by keeping His commandments and His statutes and His rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the LORD, your God, will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.

But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the LORD your God, obeying His voice, and holding fast to Him, for He is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.” Deuteronomy 30:15-20

Turn to the Lord Jesus Christ today and choose life. God is waiting with open arms, like a father waiting for his rebellious son to come home. He longs to show you grace, mercy, and forgiveness. Don’t you understand that you are causing yourself very much harm and damage by following the ways of sin and disobedience? He gives you these commands for your benefit, not your harm. Restrictions and boundaries are for your protection, but if you run outside of the bounds of His Law, you only bring more pain upon yourself.

But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have, for “Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.” “I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me.” “All day long, I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.” Romans 12:18-21

He wants to heal you and bind up the wounds you and the world have inflicted upon your being. He wants to bless you and give you a new mind and heart that you will want to obey Him. To restore the joy and peace He always intended to be yours. To grant you everlasting life in Heaven and a reward that will blow your mind for following and obeying Jesus as your Savior.

His reward for your decision is life instead of death, love instead of judgment, joy instead of sorrow, reward instead of punishment, mercy and grace instead of justice. He desires to give you so much more you cannot even imagine. How many of us enjoy the love, joy, peace, and kindness shown to us? The answer is everyone appreciates it when others are good to them. So, likewise, God wants to show goodness toward you. But you must repent, turn away from sin, and turn to Jesus. He is the only way to the Father and what is truly good in your life and for eternity.

Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of His own will, He brought us forth by the word of truth that we should be a kind of first fruits of His creatures. James 1:16-18
