No matter how young or old you are in your walk with the Lord, it is important to always follow the example of Jesus in your life, to do things His way. You should always seek to please the Father. Even Jesus looked to His Father for instruction and obeyed His commands. He sought Him out in prayer that He might obey His will.
Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. John 5:19
But now, even more, the report about Him went abroad, and great crowds gathered to hear Him and to be healed of their infirmities. But He would withdraw to desolate places and pray. Luke 5:15-16
What are those things, you may ask? Honor your father and your mother, love one another, worship God and no other, do not lie, steal, look at others with hatred or unrighteous desires in your heart, and be content with what you have, to name a few. Do these things sound familiar? They are from the Law, the ten commandments God gave all mankind to follow and obey. Yet, depending on your strength, it is often hard to be good. This struggle is because of sin and your sinful nature.
But God commands everyone to turn from their sins and obey Him. To give up on your attempts at doing what is right on your own. To cry out to Jesus, repent, ask for help, and allow Him to work perfectly in you to follow and obey Him. You need the work of the Holy Spirit to do what is right. Otherwise, your old nature eventually takes over.
Yes, that’s right, you must repent your sins to Jesus, turn away from them, follow the Father’s instructions, and ask Him to change you through His power. God’s inner strength gives one the power to overcome.
If you believe and follow Him. If you repent and turn from your sins. If you seek for God to guide you through this life. If you give everything into His hands and seek the Holy Spirit to change you, He will provide you with a new heart, mind, and the ability to do as He commands. Jesus obeyed the Father and gained strength from Him to go to the cross with full knowledge of what that would be like, and so can you. You can have the strength to endure anything the Lord allows to come your way. When you fully give yourself to Him.
And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God. Ezekiel 36:26-28
