Be careful not to do your good works before men. Remember, it is the intent of the heart that matters. You will reap what you sow. If it is for an earthly audience and applause you desire, that is exactly what you will receive. But if you sow to please the Lord, He promises to reward you. Your reward will be far greater than anything you would have in mind.
What you do for the Lord, do in secret so you may receive what is better. For the Lord said not to declare your giving with a trumpet, so that people may praise you. But give in secret that the Lord God will see it and be pleased with your sacrifice. That He may be the one to give back to you for your kindness and generous hand.
Also, the Lord says that when you pray go into your inner room and pray to Him in secret. Present to Him all your troubles and requests. For what the Lord sees you do in secret He will surely not turn away. Whatever you do, do it for the Lord. For His will, purpose, plan, praise, and reward.
Do not let your good works go to waste, seeking the approval of men. But do your good deeds in such a way that only the Lord sees them. Even if men have no idea what a giving person you may be, the Lord will see you as a great and faithful servant. Remember the ways of God are the opposite of man. For Jesus said,
The last will be first, and the first last. Matthew 20:16
Then when you are welcomed into the Heavenly places, the Lord Himself will greet you and bring you up to the place of prominence before all of heaven to see. This is because you seated yourself at the lowest place on earth. What an honor it will be when your Master comes down and says, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Jesus said, “Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.”
“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Matthew 6:1-6
