Are you alive in Christ? Have you died to yourself? What I mean by these questions is, has the Lord so changed your point of view about your life that you no longer live for your own purposes? Have you given up on all it means to desire your own ways and striving for your own path in life?
Can you say the following statement and be completely truthful in its meaning? “It is only for Jesus Christ that I now live. I have died to myself, and I no longer live but Christ lives in me.”
You see to truly live for Christ, to be His true follower you will be radically changed. No longer seeking the things of this world but the things and purposes of God. You will put your hand to the plow and never look back.
How radical of a change you may say? Because many claim Christ but there is no difference in their lives or actions than any other unrepentant unbeliever. So many of this world proclaim Christ as their savior giving Him only lip service, but they serve themselves.
If you were to stand in the middle of the highway and were hit by a 10-ton semi-truck @ 70mph, you would be changed! If you were to stand on the surface of the sun for 1 minute, you would be changed! And if you met the Almighty God of the Universe and He put His Holy Spirit within you, you would be changed!
Do you see that there would be evidence, there would be proof of the change that occurred. There would be no doubt! No guessing or wondering if God had changed you.
You will no longer desire the sins of this world but only to rid yourself of them. The wickedness of everyone, the depravity all around you would drive you to your knees in sorrow for the lost and for heaven. You would be seeking God day and night, wanting to obey His commands and to do His will.
Your old wicked nature would be repulsive to you. You would continually be repenting for your sins and God would be constantly changing you to be more like Him.
Your faith and trust in Him would increase and you would do things for the Lord that others may call crazy.
You have now been justified by faith, and are in right standing before God. Through your works and good deeds, you have proved yourself truthful, and that your faith is true.
You will seek to do those good things the Father has prepared for you to do.
You will then exclaim to the world, as Fernando Ortega wrote in His song, “Give Me Jesus”
“You can have ALL this world, But give me JESUS!”
Yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.
But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be a transgressor.
For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God.
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose. Galatians 2:16-21
