A Handful Of Flour

There come times in your life when the Lord makes things very difficult for you. He removes all the pleasantries and delicacies of life. He causes the struggle to be so very real and pressing. No one can truly understand looking from the outside in and who could expect them to. It is the struggle He designed just for you.

But all the Lord needs is a handful of flour to feed a nation, all He needs is a scoop of oil to refresh your soul. These things He continues to replenish day by day, though they seem to be almost gone. He reduces your hold, your grasping onto the things of this world. You had been using them to hold yourself up, depending upon them to keep your balance.

One finger at a time, He peels them off, until that very last frightening finger. Until He removes that last one and there is nothing to hold onto except the Lord Jesus Himself.

Help me, O Lord my God! Save me according to your steadfast love! Let them know that this is your hand; you, O Lord, have done it! Let them curse, but you will bless! They arise and are put to shame, but your servant will be glad! May my accusers be clothed with dishonor; may they be wrapped in their own shame as in a cloak!

With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord; I will praise Him in the midst of the throng. For He stands at the right hand of the needy one, to save him from those who condemn his soul to death. Psalm 109:26-31

You may have to stay in this desperate condition for a while. Clinging only to the Lord with all your might. Until you have come to realize you are completely safe and completely secure in the strength of His embrace. There is no need to worry or fear, He will never leave and never let you go.

He is the one in control and He is the one who cares for you. Even though you may not feel it all the time, He holds you securely. Though the provisions are slim, even to scraping the bottom of the barrel. He will continue to provide until the famine is over. As the Lord took care of Elijah, the widow, and her son from Zarephath.

For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘The jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain upon the earth.’” And she went and did as Elijah said. And she and he and her household ate for many days. The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord that He spoke by Elijah. 1 Kings 17:14-16

All He needs is a handful of flour that has no end. All He needs is a scoop full of oil that will sustain your soul. The day is coming, it is drawing near when He will burst open the flood gates and pour down the blessed rain from Heaven that you won’t be able to contain. When that time comes it will not be early and it will not be late. But it will be right on time. Just as the Lord has declared, it will be.

And I will make them and the places all around My hill a blessing, and I will send down the showers in their season; they shall be showers of blessing. And the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, and they shall be secure in their land.

And they shall know that I am the Lord when I break the bars of their yoke and deliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them. They shall no more be a prey to the nations, nor shall the beasts of the land devour them. They shall dwell securely, and none shall make them afraid. Ezekiel 34:26-28

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! We bless you from the house of the Lord. The Lord is God, and He has made His light to shine upon us. Bind the festal sacrifice with cords, up to the horns of the altar! You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you. Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever! Psalm 118:26-29
