Sow In Love

Many are the good works of a Christian. For example, Christians have established hospitals, schools, and homeless shelters through the ages to help the poor, hurting, and sick. The list of all the good things Christians have done for the world’s benefit is endless.

A believer’s call in Jesus Christ is to stay busy doing good deeds and helping others physically and spiritually, feeding the poor, teaching, preaching, and instructing in the ways of God’s wisdom. We see the evidence when Christians build homes, repair roofs, heal hearts, save lives from the poverty of sin, and save souls from the grip of Satan and his demons. When a person becomes changed by God, they are now the hands and feet of Jesus, and they can’t help but sow in love.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season, we will reap if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:9-10

The very essence of Christianity is to be a servant and to serve as Jesus served us. To sacrifice what we have to help others, save them from sin and death, and heal the body as Jesus did. He sacrificed His place of royalty and painless existence in Heaven to come to earth, suffer, and die for all our sins. Jesus came as the lowest of servants to teach us how to be the greatest so that we may follow His example.

The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. Matthew 23:11-12

Jesus has given you the best example of how to live. Many have no idea that Jesus died for them. That they deserve punishment for their sins or that they need to repent and turn from sin. They do not know they must humble themselves and follow Jesus for salvation. So it is our job to tell them.

Think about this important point. Even if you perform all of these good deeds and yet hold sin in your heart, such as selfishness, self-righteousness, arrogance, spite, malice, and more, God will not look upon your work favorably. In fact, if you do good things without love in your heart, God says it is all worthless.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.  And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. 1 Corinthians 13:1-8

You must sow in love. Every good gift comes down from the Father, including love. Love was the motivation Jesus had to die for the unrighteous, and it is to be our motivation as well. No greater force can move a man or woman to change than love. No mightier influence can soften a hard heart than love. There is no higher mandate than what Jesus has declared for us to do. To love God and love one another. If you love, you are obeying all the Lord’s commands.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God because God is love. In this, the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world so that we might live through Him.

In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:7-11

Only the love of Jesus Christ will heal the brokenhearted, not your deeds, even if they help. It is His love that will make the proud person humble. His love can cause a selfish heart to change and give unconditionally. It is the motivation of His love that can build that hospital, drill wells for a desperate community, provide shelter, and offer help to the homeless and poor.

His love will go out of its way to feed the starving soul. To provide them with the authentic food we need for our souls, the Word of God. To give them the Gospel of Jesus Christ that will save their soul from an eternity of pain and suffering. Only by working through His love will you obtain an eternal reward for the work you do.

Now, if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. 1 Corinthians 3:12-15

So whatever you do, whatever you say, whatever your mind and soul desire to accomplish, do everything out of the love of Jesus Christ. Humble yourself as a servant to do it for the Lord and others. Not for your desires. But to do everything with a pure heart and righteous intention because of what God has done for you. He saved your soul; now go and sow in love that Jesus may save the souls of others.

At the end of the day, give glory and honor to Jesus Christ. Then, you will have a great reward in Heaven because you walked in the love of God. You will reap what you have sown in love by lowering yourself by Jesus’ example, small in the eyes of all but great in the eyes of God.
