Many are the good works of a Christian. Hospitals have been built, schools and churches have been erected, wounds have been healed, and lives saved. The list of all the good things that have been done for the benefit of others is endless.
It is very true that as a believer in Jesus Christ you should be busy doing good deeds and helping others. Feeding the poor, teaching, preaching, and instructing in the ways of God’s wisdom. Building homes, healing hearts, saving lives from poverty, and saving souls from the grip of Satan and his demons.
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:9-10
This is the very essence of Christianity, to be a servant, and to serve as Jesus served us. To sacrifice what we have to help others. To save them from sin and death. This is what Jesus did. He sacrificed His place of glory and painless existence in Heaven to come to the earth, to suffer and die for all of our sins.
The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. Matthew 23:11-12
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20
Now that He has given you the best example of how to live, that is Jesus Christ. Live to save the people who are lost, poor, suffering, broken, lonely, and weak. Though most of them living in this world do not know that they are destined to suffer after death unless they turn in repentance of their sins to Jesus before death.
And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34
But listen up, before you do that, I have something very important to teach you.
If you do all these good things and yet hold sin in your heart such as selfishness, religious arrogance, spite, or malice, your work will not be looked upon favorably by God. In fact, if you do good things with sin in your heart, and not out of sincere love, God says it is all worthless.
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends. 1 Corinthians 13:1-8a
So everything you do must be done out of love, God’s love. It is the love of Jesus that accomplishes change and salvation.
No greater force can move a man or woman to change than the love of Jesus. No mightier influence can soften a hard heart than the love of Jesus. There is no higher mandate than what Jesus has declared for us to do, love God and love one another.
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.
In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:7-11
It is through the Love of Jesus Christ that will heal that broken heart, not your deeds. It is His love that will make the proud humble. It is His love that can cause a selfish heart to give unconditionally. It is the motivation of His love that can build that hospital, drill a well of freshwater for a desperate community, provide shelter, and give help for the homeless and poor.
It is His love that will go out of its way to feed the starving soul. To feed them with the true food, who is Jesus Christ. To give them the Gospel of Jesus Christ that will save their soul from an eternity of pain and suffering.
Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. John 6:53-57
So whatever you do, whatever you say, whatever your mind and soul desire to accomplish, do everything out of the love of Jesus Christ.
Do everything with a pure heart and righteous intention. Always do them out of love and not any other motivation.
Then give all the glory to Jesus Christ and rejoice in how He has changed even a sinner like you. Then you will have a great reward in Heaven because you walked in the love of God. Then also, you will reap greatly what you have sown, for your good works were done out of His great love.
