What Is Good

If I were to ask most people if they were a “good person,” what do you think they would say? Most of them may reply, “Yes, I am a very good person!” By what standard do you judge yourself? What would you say about yourself? Are you a good person? If you say you are, would you think you would be accepted into Heaven?

Many may say that being good requires doing what is right to the best of your ability. They may say they are trying to make sure their good outweighs the bad. But God says that the definition of good is moral perfection and complete righteousness.

The standard of God is much higher than yours. It is not just being better than someone else or doing your best. To do more of what is right and less of what is wrong. It is being in complete moral perfection. Which is impossible for everyone that has ever lived except for Jesus. You can see from this that no one on earth could be said to be “good.” What does God say about being good?

Yet, “as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” Romans 3:10-12 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23

You may try to justify yourself by saying, “I am not as bad as so and so,” forgetting the sins you have committed in the past. You may even say that you don’t lie or steal anymore, “that was in my past.” But does it matter to a judge that you are trying to be good now if you have committed crimes in the past? He will sentence you for all the crimes brought before him.

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart. Proverbs 21:2

You may say, “everyone has made mistakes, we are all human.” You may deny you have sinned at all, either afraid to admit it, not fully understanding what sin is, or justifying the things you have done. “It’s no big deal.” Thinking you will just reason with the Lord on the Day of Judgment, or He might let it slide or pardon you because the good outweighs your bad. But that is not how it works. Not even in our courts of Law.

For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God. John 3:20-21

Unfortunately, God will not just let it slide. Would a good judge let a criminal go just because he says he is sorry, that it was in the past, or tell him it is no big deal? No, a good judge would have to sentence the crime according to the law. Otherwise, the judge would be a bad judge and could be sentenced to punishment himself.

And a ruler asked Him (Jesus), “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’ Luke 18:18-20

No one has lived up to God’s requirement for Heaven, which is moral perfection. Everyone has sinned and broken God’s Law the Ten Commandments and is in serious trouble on Judgement day.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23

God is a perfect judge and has to punish what is wrong. God knows the heart, God knows the truth. He will punish evil wherever it is found. He demands perfection to be welcomed into heaven. But don’t worry, God made a way to make you perfect in Him. Keep reading and I will tell you the good news.

It is Jesus Christ that has paid your fine. He is the one who can make you pure and righteous in God’s eyes. If you are willing to accept His terms. You see sin is breaking God’s Laws, such as lying, stealing, hatred, adultery, lust, disobeying your parents, not obeying and loving God, and many more things that you instinctively know are wrong because of your conscience.

God has written the definition of right and wrong upon your own heart. Everyone knows when someone does them wrong because God has given them a conscience. Even the people of a remote jungle know what is right and wrong. They know it is wrong when someone steals their wife or kills their child.

For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus. Romans 2:14-16

Some day you will die, and you will have to give an account for all you have done both good and evil. God will judge you by what you have done, what you have said, the secret thoughts of your mind, and the motivations of your heart.

When you stand there alone, you will have to pay for your own sins. If there is no one to redeem you or pay for your crimes, God will have to sentence you to His place of punishment for all eternity. His prison, He calls Hell and it will be a horrible place to be. There will be crying, weeping, torment, pain, and gnashing of teeth in Hell. But Jesus offers you life, redemption, and an escape route from Hell to Heaven.

The Son of Man (Jesus) will send His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 13:41-42

I do not want you to go to Hell. I know that everyone who does not have Jesus to save them will go there. God does not want you to go there either. He loves you and is patient with you. He has given you your whole life to come to this point, to read this message of hope and turn to Him.

He gives you every good thing that you enjoy daily. He is the one who gives you happiness and joy in this life. Every day He gives you another chance to repent of your sins, to turn away from your sinful lifestyle. All day long He holds out His hands to you wanting you to turn to Him. To believe in Him, repent of your sins, and obey His Law. To Follow Jesus.

The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

I(God) was ready to be sought by those who did not ask for me; I was ready to be found by those who did not seek me. I said, “Here I am, here I am,” to a nation that was not called by my name. I spread out my hands all the day to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own devices; a people who provoke me to my face continually, Isaiah 65:1-3

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-19

God loves you so much that even though you are a sinner, He sent His only son, Jesus Christ to die for you. He sent Him to suffer and sacrifice His life in your place, so that you may be forgiven for your many crimes and sins against God.

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Since, therefore, we have now been justified by His blood, much more shall we be saved by Him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by His life. Romans 5:6-10

You see Jesus died for you, for your sins, that you may be saved from eternal death and punishment in Hell. He took upon Himself the complete Wrath of God that you deserve for your sins. For everything you have done that is against a holy and righteous God.

But now you must turn away from those sins, which is repentance. You must believe in Jesus, confess those sins, and put your faith in Him. You must give your entire life to Him, ask Him to forgive you for your sins, and follow and obey what He says. He promises that if you seek Him you will find Him. If you humble yourself and repent He will forgive you. He will then give you a new heart and mind. He will grant you everlasting life with Him in Heaven for all eternity instead of Hell. This is the good news you have been waiting for. Will you listen and obey Him?

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the LORD, Jeremiah 29:11-14

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20 I, I am He who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins. Isaiah 43:25

Come to me(Jesus), all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-29

Have you been seeking and searching for something to fill what is missing in your life? Jesus is the answer. Have you been struggling against sin, knowing what you are doing is wrong but don’t know how to fix it?

Jesus is the answer. Do you know something is wrong but don’t know what or where to turn? Jesus is the answer. He loves you, He died for you, and He desperately wants to forgive you. But you must humble yourself before Him, believe in Him, repent and completely put your trust and faith in Him. Nothing else but Jesus can save you.

If you do this, He will fill you with love, joy, and peace. He will grant you a place in Heaven. Please consider this today before it is too late. You don’t even know if today will be your last. Jesus is waiting for you to come to Him. When will you turn and run to Him for forgiveness?
