Temptations

Do not despair when you fall into sin or when temptation comes from every side. But turn to Jesus for forgiveness through repentance. He hears the prayers of the humble of heart, which mean it when they say, “I am sorry; forgive me.”

Jesus said, “Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the one by whom the temptation comes!” Matthew 18:7

You will be tempted in this world, no doubt. It happens every day. But God says, “Woe to those who tempt others to sin.” You will be persecuted and reviled. But woe to those who ridicule the righteous for the sake of Jesus. It is natural to desire sin, but you can overcome it in Jesus’ name. Trust Him; God will help you in times of temptation and take care of the wicked.

Understand that evil people will come, and they will go. The self-righteous, self-centered, and religious will mock those who strive to do what pleases God, doing what is good, righteous, and obedient to the Lord. But the unrighteous will not get far because they are building up a condemnation they cannot escape. On the contrary, the righteous have rewards waiting for them because of their honest behavior and endurance.

Stand strong in the Lord. These temptations will come, and those against your righteous behavior will receive what they have earned. Remember, the journey of a Christian is an uphill battle, a rough, narrow road, a fierce war against spiritual and evil forces. But you must endure to the end. Do not fear; God will uphold you. Continual repentance, resisting evil, and trusting in Jesus are the keys to success through the power given by the Spirit of the Lord.

Therefore, let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, He will also provide the way of escape that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:12-13

Resist the entrapments of the Devil. Study the Word of God so that a deceitful thought or word will not catch you off guard. But you will clearly see it from afar. But when you do fall to sin, do not be in despair. God listens and forgives all who humble themselves through repentance and turn from sin.

Stand firm in your faith against temptations. Stand firm in Jesus Christ’s name and in His Spirit’s power. You will make it; God has promised great things to those who are faithful to Him. Those who endure many trials, temptations, and failures yet rise again to walk in the Lord’s righteousness will receive a great reward. Trust in Him and have faith. His promises are true.

Submit yourselves, therefore, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you. James 4:7-10
