You have been called to love like no other. To follow and obey the Lord with everything that is within you. As well, you have been commanded by God to love your enemies. You are not to return evil for evil, but to do good to them in response. To love them and to pray for them, even to give them what they don’t deserve.
You are to follow in the footsteps of Jesus and show them the difference the Lord has made in your life. A true testimony of the change and transformation the Lord has accomplished in you. It must come from the heart.
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this, the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world so that we might live through Him.
In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and His love is perfected in us. 1 John 4:7-12
Even if they slap you, insult you, force you to work for them, abuse you, or say all kinds of evil things about you. You are to not only let them do this, but you are to be kind to them and pray for them. You are to give them twice what they ask for and to show them love and forgiveness.
You see my friend, every person is just like you used to be. They are lost, wandering around in the darkness, with no hope, or understanding. What they need is someone to show them compassion and love. You just might be the one God has chosen to be instrumental in their coming to God for salvation.
So pray for them, show love to them, and overcome evil by doing good. You never know if God may save their very soul through your words, actions, and testimony. Don’t forget to share the soul-saving Gospel of Jesus Christ with them. It is the power to Salvation for all who believe.
Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.
Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you. “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven.
For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:38-48
