As you forge forward in this new year, consider the most important commandment the Lord has given you. It is a commandment that if you keep it you will, in turn, keep all of His commandments. What is this commandment? Love one another!
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35
If you love your neighbors, parents, brothers, sisters, everyone you come in contact with each day, and even your enemies, you will also desire to obey all the rest of God’s commands. This will prove that you are truly born of God and a child of God.
If you don’t love others and your life is riddled with bitterness, envy, strife, lust, hate, greed, and jealousy, you need to take a closer look at yourself. Realizing that the fruits of God’s Spirit are not dwelling within you.
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:7-8
Because if the Spirit is truly in you, you will display love, joy, peace, goodness, kindness, patience, faithfulness, temperance, and self-control. “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”
Cry out to the Lord for forgiveness. Ask Him for His Spirit to come and fill you, changing your heart and mind so you will be able to love one another. It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that you can be changed. It is only through the love of God that we can truly love others.
Read these last 5 verses and test yourself to see if you truly possess the love of God. True Love.
4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never ends. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
