Consider your ways very carefully and the motivations of your heart. That which pushes and moves you in your everyday pursuits. What are you seeking most in this world? What is it that consumes your thoughts and time mostly? Are they the things of God, or is your mind dwelling on the things of this world? The things you desire.
Think carefully, muse upon your ways. Step outside of yourself and take a good long honest look at the fruit of your heart. Yes, you do need many things in this world. It is unavoidable. But have you put them on the top shelf above the Lord? Is the product of your heart, mind, mouth, and actions to honor Him or yourself?
“As God is exalted to the right place in our lives, a thousand problems are solved all at once.” – A.W. Tozer
First and foremost, the Lord’s ways should be first in your mind. He should be on the top shelf. The most important thing in your life. He should be exalted to His rightful place. Follow and obey Him in everything you do, say, and think. Not only should His Word be on the tip of your tongue, your life should be a living example of what it looks like to not only hear His Word but do it.
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. James 1:22-25
His Law, commands, and precepts should be on your mind day and night. Prayer and staying connected to Him as well. Like David, His Word and the Lord should be the first and your most important interest. Also, to follow and obey His commands in righteousness.
Oh, how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day. Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the aged, for I keep your precepts. I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep your word. Psalm 119:97-101
If He is not in the proper place that He ought to be in your life, make that change here and now. Devote yourself to the Lord entirely and for all eternity. He is good, and His ways will be healing and refreshing to your soul. If you seek Him with all your heart.
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30
Seek Him first and His Kingdom. When you look back, no matter who disagrees with you, there will be no regret or sadness for following your Lord and Savior wherever He leads. But let me warn you if you reject His ways, you will, in turn, be rejected by Him. Pray to the Lord that He may take off your blinders so that you see things with eternity in view.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:10-12
