You may have heard the saying, “when the going gets tough, the tough get going.” But I would like to ask you when it gets tough, who are you trusting? In the good times and bad, who do you rely on when your life’s on the line? Yet, no one can shake your foundation when your faith is in Jesus Christ.
When the pressing gets heavy, the strain becomes taut to the point of breaking, and the pressure is unbearable, the wise run to the Lord. When the righteous put their faith in Him, it is like running into a mighty fortress. Jesus is their bastion of hope.
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. Proverbs 18:10
Though the righteous are scorched by the heat of afflictions, battered by the barrage of attacks, and blown by raging storms. They stand firm; they stand fast against the gale. Because they depend on the Lord, they will not wither, break, or fall.
He is the one who holds them upright. They have driven their roots deep into the Word of God and filled themselves with the Spirit of God. It is His knowledge, wisdom, and hope they depend. Therefore, there is no reason to fear or fret because He is unmovable and trustworthy.
Blessed be the Lord! For He has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song, I give thanks to Him. The Lord is the strength of His people; He is the saving refuge of His anointed. Oh, save your people and bless your heritage! Be their shepherd and carry them forever. Psalm 28:6-9
There is no one like the Lord whom you can trust. No one else gives sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, strength to the lame, and courage to the cowardly. No one is greater or more mighty than the Lord God. Therefore, in every situation and circumstance, you can trust in Him. He will never let His righteous one fall. He will hold them fast.
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grows weary; His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to Him who has no might, He increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted, but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:28-31
Stand strong and stand still in the presence of the Lord. Be confident in the Lord God. He is your victor; He is your champion. He will feed, hold, surround, and sustain His people. He is a bastion of hope to all those who run to Him for protection and those who put their faith in Him.
Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land.
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water that sends out its roots by the stream and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:5-8
