Walking Alone With God

What is the difference between someone who only knows about God and one who truly trusts, believes, and is known by God? The one who knows about God has an intellectual understanding of Jesus but will not obey His commands. Therefore, they do not fear His rebuke and warnings.

But the one who trusts and believes He died for their sins and paid the debt of God’s wrath on their account will follow and obey Him with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. They will do all they can to accomplish His will for their lives and walk alone with Him if necessary.

Remember Judas? He was intimately close to Jesus, but he was not of Him. Judas betrayed Jesus in the end. We can see who is true and false, not by looking at appearances, which can be deceiving. But we look to the actions and words of the individual. The genuine article will display the attributes of the Father Himself; They will walk like Jesus did, who is the genuine article. He walked in pure devotion to the Father in every way. Jesus obeyed every word He received from the Father.

The genuine follower of God obeys His commandments, loves God, loves others, walks in faith, trusts Him, and leans not on their own understanding. They don’t trust the wisdom of this world but rely on the strength of the Father.

They are willing to walk alone like a child on an unknown path. Because they know God is with them. Their faith is in a God who does not lie and never fails. We may often walk alone in an earthly sense, but we are never alone. For Jesus walks with us and holds our hand, shining His light to guide our way.

Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him. John 14:21

And without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him. Hebrews 11:6

The true follower and servant of the Lord is a doer of the Word and not just a hearer. They obey when the Lord instructs them to go or to stay. They listen when the Lord speaks. They are silent, hold tight, and do not give in when He says, “trust me.”

They see themselves in the mirror of the Law; they know they are sinners and that at every moment, they must keep close to the Lord. Therefore, they continually repent their sins and seek to do what is right. They forsake the wickedness of the world and their flesh to walk in the holiness and the purity of the Lord. To simplify it, they are honest with themselves, others, and God because they realize in God’s eyes, nothing is hidden.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.

For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. James 1:22-25

They are so determined to walk with the Lord that they will go alone in the wilderness to obey His call. Leaving others behind that doubt their call and do not believe what the Lord has commanded them to do. They will not let anyone hold them back or hold them down but will forge forward toward the prize and the upward call on their life.

Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 3:13-14

Can you imagine the loss of eternal rewards that people of this world sacrifice for temporary pleasures or trinkets? Think about it. It would be like them allowed to search and find a chest full of diamonds or trade it for cotton candy that required no work. It is so sad what people will be missing, but this is essentially what most people do. They trade the treasure for a trinket.

Let us look at other examples of those who looked to what was eternal. They are different, like David going out against the giant alone, knowing God was on His side. They are like Joseph, alone in a foreign land, willing to sacrifice everything to do what is right. They are like Job, who walked in righteousness and integrity, even amid great suffering, mockery, and false accusations.

They are like Jesus Christ, willing to give every drop of blood, sweat, and tears to fulfill the call and destiny placed on His life. They know that the reward waiting for them is far greater than the suffering they have to endure to obtain it. They have the highest-paying job. The eternal blessings will be the wages they have earned.

They may seem like they are alone and foolish from human eyes. But I tell you the truth, the Armies of Heaven are with them. They are surrounded and moved by the power of the Spirit of the Lord! When their faith is on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ, no man, no world system, no demon, or devil can stand against them with that kind of power on their side. People may see it as a molehill pushed aside by their work, but mountains are moved.

Be like those who are faithful to God, trust in Jesus, spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and do whatever the Lord wills you to do. Be a part of the will of God, and everything you do will be profitable for eternity. Remember, it will all work out according to God’s plan and purpose. Then, after all the tears are shed and trials are done, you will leap for joy and praise the Lord for all He did for you because of your faith.

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Isaiah 55:10-12
