We need wisdom today to walk in the way God wants us to go. To follow the path that leads to life. But not just any wisdom will do. So beware of following the wisdom of this world or even your own. Because the world’s wisdom is folly, and your own wisdom is flawed.
Many people believe they are wise and willing to share their words of wisdom with anyone who will listen. Just think about yourself. Assuming that you are right and everyone else is wrong is so easy. Just to find out later you were wrong. The question is, are you willing to admit that you are wrong?
I know it is hard to swallow, but God says your wisdom is not sound. You can not trust what comes from your heart or those who claim worldly wisdom unless God is in you and has given you His wisdom. Anything else will lead you off of the path of righteousness. He is the only one who can show you true wisdom.
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart. Proverbs 21:2
Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” So let no one boast in men. 1 Corinthians 3:18-21
There is a reason that wickedness has increased upon the earth. It is because knowledge has increased. Just think about it. At the touch of a button, you can search and find the answer to almost any question on the internet. Yet, not everything you find there is the truth. But this kind of increased knowledge causes a man to become more dependent on what he knows instead of what God says. It causes his mind to turn to pride and his heart to harden towards the things of God. Because now that he knows it all, why does he need God?
You could have all the knowledge the world has to offer, but if you lack God’s wisdom, that knowledge is worthless. God knows your heart and that it is exceedingly wicked and selfish if left unchecked. As He says, your wisdom is craftiness, and it will turn you away from Him into disobedience. It even goes entirely against the conscience He has given you. Therefore, the Law of God instructs that you should do good instead of evil, right instead of wrong, and wisdom instead of foolishness.
“I the LORD search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.” Like the partridge that gathers a brood that she did not hatch, so is he who gets riches but not by justice; in the midst of his days, they will leave him, and at his end, he will be a fool. Jeremiah 17:10-11
God calls you to humble yourself, seek His wisdom and understanding, and not trust your wisdom. Neither should you ever trust the knowledge of this world because it is deceptive. Instead, God calls you to look at your ways and judge the ideas and motivations of your own heart, to judge them with sober and godly judgment. Then, through the lens of God’s wisdom, you can determine what is right and wrong. Ask Him for His insight and wisdom so you can understand and use knowledge wisely.
In this kind of examination, repent and seek God’s advice if your thinking is against His Law and His ways. Unfortunately, Satan has also sent many into this world masquerading as men and women who seem to have much wisdom. But if they do not align with God’s words, they are false and must be avoided.
Some appear to be good on the outside but rotten on the inside. An apple with a rotten core must be tested. You can often only determine an apple’s condition once you take a bite. But when you discover its true flavor, you will spit it out. Like the apple, these people must be tested in light of God’s Word, which is always good. But if you lack wisdom, which most of us do, ask God, and He promises to give it to you.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5
Beware of those in the churches who mix and match good and evil together, mixing part truth and part deception. They depend on their wisdom and the opinions of other religious leaders to determine what is right. Satan has sent these men and women into the churches to corrupt the people. But those close to the LORD and possessing His wisdom will recognize them and see through their wicked intent. So beware, rebuke in Jesus’ name, and separate yourself from such people. Remember, the Lord warns that bad company corrupts good character. So do not mingle with such people.
Seek the wisdom that comes from above, the kind that only comes from God. It will give you understanding and the ability to know what to do with the increase of knowledge in this world. It will keep you from falling into Satan’s traps. If you focus on Jesus to follow and obey His commands, God will direct your path straight ahead through godly wisdom so you may clearly see the path ahead.
Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates, she speaks: “How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools’ hate knowledge? If you turn at My reproof, behold, I will pour out My spirit to you; I will make My words known to you. Proverbs 1:20-23
