When you consider who God is, I am sure many thoughts and ideas come to mind. Thoughts of what the Bible says. Thoughts of what others have said or written about Him in the past. Thoughts of what the church has and is teaching at this very moment.
Many that are true and many more in fact that is not. This is because we are not like God and He is not like us. You can not fully understand Him. Yet men in their arrogance and intellect, have put Him in their own descriptive box. They think they know Him and have accurately described His character and disposition.
But without the understanding that comes only through the Holy Spirit, you can not see the true from the false. To His fullness, no one can fully understand Him. To truly know Him, His infinite glory, and omnipotence is simply beyond your grasp. But to those who walk in the Spirit of the Lord, He will give the wisdom to see the truth.
Now onto the subject of His being eternal and unchangeable, is hard to comprehend. The reason it is hard to understand is that the mind of man is not like God.
Mankind in general continually does change. We change our opinions, beliefs, feelings, views, and even religious convictions sometimes even on a daily basis.
But not God. No, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Do not be deceived in believing the false perception that He does change, as described by some leaders of the church.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, which have not benefited those devoted to them. Hebrews 13:8-9
There is no shifting of His opinions or views. There is no morphing of the way He thinks or acts from time to time. He doesn’t operate in one way two thousand years ago, another yesterday, and then in a different way tomorrow.
For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:6-7
Are you going to listen to men and their opinions, instead of the words from God Himself? Or, are you going to listen and believe what God says by faith?
Read these next several verses of what God says about Himself. Consider what you have listened to and believed in the past. Then make a determination in your heart and soul to only believe what God says. Measure what men say by His authority.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17
God is not man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not fulfill it? Numbers 23:19
Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but You are the same, and Your years have no end. Psalm 102:25-27
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable. Isaiah 40:28
My point in this, many who have taught in the church in the past have spoken falsely. Yet, there are those who continue to follow them. Unfortunately they have believed their opinions and lies. They do not believe God.
If what they said did not agree with what God said they were flat out wrong.
Even though all of mankind believes it to be true and millions of people in the church applauded their intellect, they were incorrect.
It has been said, “a lie is a lie if everyone believes it and the truth is the truth if no one believes it.”
God can not lie. He can not mislead. He is completely pure, holy, and honest. Therefore, it is His Word that you must believe by faith.
So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of His purpose, He guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. Hebrews 6:17-18
Those who trust in Him, those who believe in Him, those who follow and obey Him, will see His mighty works. Those who do not listen to all the different and diverse teachings of men, but listen to God, will not be led astray.
The Lord Himself will deliver them from all deception from the wicked one.
Yes, it can be hard to believe that many leaders in the church have been led by the devil. But it is true.
Many have been led by their own spirit and even demonic spirits. Those who spoke without the Spirit of the Lord and taught contrary to who God is and His ways are led by the devil. They have been tricked and deceived, though most don’t even know it.
Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it. 2 Timothy 3:12-14
Even though two things that are true about God may seem to be contradictory. Both things of what God has said are true. He can do the impossible. He can perform the improbable. He will accomplish the incredible. Nothing is outside of His power except to do evil.
God divided the Red Sea with Moses and a staff. God crumbled the walls of Jericho with Joshua and a shout. He decimated an entire army with only Gideon and his 300 men. God even allowed His faithful servants to walk in a fiery furnace without a trace of the flames upon their bodies or clothes. He created the entire universe with a Word.
So trust and believe His Word and His Word only. Only listen to men or women who are led by the Spirit of the Lord God Almighty.
Completely give yourself over to His will and control for your life. To follow and obey Him in every aspect of your life, will be of a greater reward and benefit than any other thing you could imagine.
Do not be like Saul or other men who rebelled against God and presumed to know what is right.
And Samuel said, “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the Word of the LORD, He has also rejected you from being king.” 1 Samuel 15:22-23
