The Lord Jesus Christ is all-powerful. He lives and reigns. He will one day soon come in blazing glory to take His righteous and chosen people. He will come to judge the evil and wicked, the idolatrous and rebellious people of the earth. There is no action, word, thought, or intention of the heart that can be hidden from Him. All will have to give an account for every deed done, even those things done in secret and in the depths of the hearts of man.
For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. Romans 14:11-12
Nothing in all creation is hidden from His sight. Even the ill thoughts, religious pride, arrogant demeanor, or selfish ambition of a man who thinks he is righteous and blameless in his own mind. Much greater judgment waits for those who rebelled against what they knew to be right.
And that servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or act according to His will, will receive a severe beating.
But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more. Luke 12:47-48
Let the Law of the Lord so humble you, let it tear down the pride of your own self centered and self righteous opinion, of yourself and look at yourself in righteous judgment.
Turn your laughter to sadness and your glee to mourning over your own sin. Taking God’s side against yourself and repent for the day of the Lord draws near. This is the powerful function of God’s Law to bring conviction of your sins to bear.
The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Psalm 19:7-11
You can not discern your own errors on your own. If you look at yourself without the help of the Lord, without the conviction from the Holy Spirit and the instruction of the Law, you will think and believe that you are ok. Thinking that you are just fine and perhaps even faultless in every way.
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart. Proverbs 21:2
Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults. Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. Psalm 19:12-13
The Lord will forgive your sins if you are humble and of a lowly spirit and sincerely turn from your own wicked ways to seek the Lord in all your ways for forgiveness. That you may turn away from the deception of your own heart in repentance, turning to the Lord only for salvation, for the forgiveness of your many sins.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14
Do not deceive yourself in thinking that religious practices, works, and experiences will gain you salvation. Do not think that attending church services, the proclamation of your lips or the performing of works will atone for your soul.
There must be repentance with true sorrow. There must be a turning from your old ways to follow the Law of the Lord. There must be a new birth into the Spirit of the Lord. There must be good fruit produced out of your new birth, which is proof of genuine conversion in Christ Jesus.
If you proclaim with your lips you love the Lord but yet work wickedness out in your life or mind you are a liar. The Lord knows the hearts and minds of all mankind that they continually go astray.
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.
But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. James 1:22-27
Being baptized by water, just knowing the truth is not enough. You must be baptized by the Holy Spirit, converted, reborn, and changed, so then you will walk in the truth and the truth will set you free.
O LORD, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. Psalm 139:1-2
