Choose Wisely

The world wants to tell you that you can determine your destiny and that you are in full control of your own life. “Live as you want and do what makes you feel good.” In one way, this is true; you can choose your path and accomplish great things if you put your mind to it.

You may have a choice to take the road on the left or the right, to do good or evil, but you do not know what will happen next. God is the only one who knows the future. We are but a breath away from entering eternity at any given moment. He has the best plan for your life, for your destiny. So, shouldn’t you put your life in His hands so that He may guide you into what is truly good and beneficial for your life and eternity?

You can choose between good and evil, right and wrong. You can choose to do what you want. But God will be the ultimate judge when it comes down to it whether you choose the right road. Many roads lead to a wrong end, and He doesn’t want that for you. Everything you do here on earth has temporal and eternal consequences that will cause ripples into what eternity has in store for you. The harsh truth is it results in either good rewards or punishment.

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Galatians 6:7-8

Please understand what the Lord wants for you. He desires extraordinary things for you. He wants pure, holy, righteous, and honorable things for you. Wicked desires, unholy activities, and unrighteous behavior are not good. But, unfortunately, they are the road on which most in this world are walking. It is the opposite of what God commands. The truth is that those things bring consequences that you will have to endure for all eternity in Hell if you walk that path.

Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice. The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:8-9

What He is doing by commanding that you obey Him and do good and not evil is to save you from the suffering to come from your choices. From the punishment you have earned by disobeying Him.

Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so the LORD, the God of hosts, will be with you, as you have said. Hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the LORD, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph. Amos 5:14-15

Wouldn’t it be much better for you to give yourselves to God’s complete control and direction? Just like it is better for a child to obey their parents, it is better to follow and obey God totally and completely. Since He has your best interest in mind, He knows all things, sees all things, hears all things, and creates all things. Therefore, He knows the best way for you to go.

If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it. Genesis 4:7

His plans for you are good, right, and perfect. What you should be choosing is His ways, obeying His commands, and His direction. There are many rewards and blessings for those who choose His ways, not only in eternity but in this life. He has made promises and does not lie, good for good and evil for evil.

God is not man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not fulfill it? Numbers 23:19

For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you! Psalm 84:11-12 The young lions suffer want and hunger, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. Psalm 34:10

So turn yourself over to God and give Him every area of your life. Cleanse yourself before Him and repent of your evil ways. Turn your eyes and attention to what He wants you to do and where He wants you to go. It is often hard to tell which is the right path without directions. But if you walk in His Spirit, He will not neglect to light your path.

What the wicked dreads will come upon him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted. Proverbs 10:24

Give Him the reigns, and walk on the good path He has chosen for you. Though it may be rough, steep, and difficult, the road He chooses for you will take you to heights you could never imagine. Then someday, eternal rewards will be waiting for you in Heaven, worth so much more than you could imagine.

Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil; learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless; plead the widow’s cause.

‘Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be eaten by the sword, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.  Isaiah 1:16-20
