The time has come when the people of this world have heaped up to themselves false teachers. Those who will teach them things that please their ears and understanding. Those who refuse to hold to the truth of the Word of God, the ways of the Spirit of God, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
From what I have seen in this world of divided religion, it is not what I thought would happen. The churches do not walk in unity as Jesus designed for the body of Christ, but they walk in the division of the evil one. Yet, let me make one thing clear. Many sects of Christianity have separated themselves from God into their denomination, and they hold to their version of beliefs and understandings of God. They rely on man-made rules and regulations, which some call a Constitution. It was all a part of Satan’s plan to divide and conquer the church.
But the Devil has not been able to touch the true bride of Christ. She is alive and well and walks by faith. Don’t you see? Why else would there be over 40,000 different denominations of Christian beliefs worldwide? In these last days, the prophecies from long ago are coming true. But, unfortunately, the next verses describe many of today’s churchgoers.
For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 2 Timothy 3:2-3
Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 2 Timothy 3:12-13
They teach those things that are not good or true. Those things range from soft and nonoffensive to demanding and harsh. Both do not affect the heart and soul to save the lost because they are from the understanding of men and are not from God’s spiritual power.
They are deceived by strange myths, discussions, arguments, and the understanding of their own spirits and minds. Making conclusions about doctrine, theology, and worship that the Lord has never declared, neither did these things come to His mind. Worshipping men, ideas, and idols that God commanded long ago never to worship. They are powerless, and their wisdom is foolishness without the Spirit of the Lord.
They set up their abominations in the house that is called by my name to defile it. They built the high places of Baal in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom to offer up their sons and daughters to Molech, though I did not command them, nor did it enter into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin. Jeremiah 32:34-35
They have fallen victim to the deception of the Devil and the understanding of men. If a man’s mind can not understand it, they don’t believe it. So if two things God has said are true yet seem to contradict themselves in their minds, they land on the understanding and teaching that one is true, and the other is false. Yet God never lies.
They trust the word of men first, searching for their approval instead of God’s. They actually have no faith at all. But they have confidence in the flesh, in the words of mankind. You are to walk and understand the things of God by faith and not by sight. God will save only those who walk by faith.
For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7
And without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him. Hebrews 11:6
It is by the Spirit of God that you are to walk. It is by faith, not by your human understanding, through the Spirit of God, that you will know what is true or false. It is not just blind faith. But God will give you insight, knowledge, and understanding of what is true.
Jesus said, But the hour is coming and is now here when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24
God does not lie. If you put your faith in Him, it is in a perfect, all-powerful, all-knowing God that will fulfill every promise and decree He has ever made. He is so much higher and mightier than you could ever conceive. There is nothing or no one more sure, trustworthy, and dependable to put your faith in than God. Even if you don’t understand what He is doing, you can trust Him.
So, do not look to the teachers of the worldly systems of religion. Look to the Spirit of the Lord who teaches in perfection. Lean upon God and not to your own understanding in all your ways. Remember, that is what Jesus teaches. So you, too, teach what is good and true, according to God’s Word and from the leading of the Holy Spirit. Not by the teachings or commentaries that men write, test everything.
The true Gospel of Jesus Christ is offensive to men because it shines the light of God and truth on their sins. It commands all men to turn from unrighteousness and repent of every sin. It calls you to be humble before a holy, righteous, and just God. Walk in the Spirit of God, not your own flesh, with all love, compassion, and gentleness. Yet, be bold to proclaim the Gospel and the truth to those in error. That is how Paul did it and how Jesus did it as well.
I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 2 Timothy 4:1-5
Finally, you may ask, “What is the Gospel?” First, the Law of God calls all mankind to not lie, steal, hate, cheat, covet, murder, lust, commit adultery, keep God’s Sabbath holy, obey their parents, make no idols to worship, and love and worship the God of Heaven only. Everyone has broken His Law. It is called sin, and everyone will receive a sentence worthy of their sinfulness. But God sent Jesus Christ to suffer, die, be buried, and rise again for your sins. He offers to forgive your sins. He loves you because He paid for them on the cross.
Now, He is calling you to confess your sins to Him, repent, and turn away from religion and your sinful ways. Then, you need to follow and obey Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. He loves you so much. Please cry out to Him today that you may be saved.
When He saw the crowds, He had compassion for them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Matthew 9:36
