Learn a lesson from the sons of Israel, and follow the Lord with a pure heart. Show kindness and compassion, and do not judge others too harshly. Do not devise evil against anyone and don’t be stubborn when confronted with your sin. Yes, I know it is hard. But be wise and listen, then turn away from it so that you may live and not be condemned or punished by the Lord.
And the word of the LORD came to Zechariah, saying, “Thus says the Lord of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.”
But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears that they might not hear. They made their hearts diamond-hard lest they should hear the Law and the words that the Lord of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets.
Therefore great anger came from the Lord of hosts. “As I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear,” says the Lord of hosts,” Zechariah 7:8-13
There will come a time when the refusal of the heart to obey the Lord will not be tolerated any longer. There will be a day when the Lord gives the wicked what they have earned. They will be condemned and there will be no more opportunity to come back to the Lord. He has been patient with you. If you have been following wickedness instead of righteousness, how much longer will the Lord remain patient?
Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind so that they do what ought not to be done. Romans 1:28
For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.
How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Hebrews 10:26-27,29-31
This applies even more to those who are shepherds of God’s flock and proclaimers of the Word of God. Be very careful about what you are doing. You will be held up to a much stricter standard before God. He will not hold those guiltless who continue in sin and teach others their ways.
Nothing is hidden in the sight of God. Even the secret sins of the heart. Everything is laid bare and naked before the Lord. The thoughts and motivations of the heart are seen by Him and will be judged in righteousness.
Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:13
He has spoken a severe and grave warning to those who have been instructed in the truth. Feed His sheep and do not deceive yourself into thinking you will get away with any evil intention, thought, or action. He disciplines and loves His children but will destroy those who lead them into sin.
For the household gods, utter nonsense, and the diviners see lies; they tell false dreams and give empty consolation. Therefore the people wander like sheep; they are afflicted for lack of a shepherd. “My anger is hot against the shepherds, and I will punish the leaders; for the Lord of hosts cares for His flock,” Zechariah 10:2-3
He has been patient with this world, but it will not be long before His patience will come to an end. If the Lord is speaking to your heart right now no matter what the reason, repent, and turn back to Him. The Lord will forgive the meek, lowly, and humble heart. But His wrath will burn against the proud and haughty spirit. In the end, there will only be trouble, suffering, and tears for those who persist in sin.
Turn to the Lord that He may forgive, cleanse, heal, and restore you to His favor. He is merciful to the humble and repentant heart. He will forgive those who turn to Him and away from their rebellious ways.
As well, the Lord will reward the faithful servant that gives their lives to Him for His service. Those who do what is right. He will hear their cry and will stand next to them and forgive their every sin. Leading them on the right way to go. His patience is enduring, in hopes you will turn to Him. Because He is compassionate and not willing that any might perish. But for the wicked, His anger will burn against them.
Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land a desolation and to destroy its sinners from it. I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the pomp of the arrogant, and lay low the pompous pride of the ruthless. Isaiah 13:9,11
The wicked are overthrown and are no more, But the house of the righteous will stand. Proverbs 12:7
