Learn a lesson from the sons of Israel, and follow the Lord with a pure heart, show kindness, mercy, and true judgment to one another. Do not devise evil against anyone and don’t be stubborn when confronted with your sin, but turn away from it that you may live and not be condemned and punished by the Lord.
And the word of the LORD came to Zechariah, saying, “Thus says the Lord of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.”
But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears that they might not hear. They made their hearts diamond-hard lest they should hear the Law and the words that the Lord of hosts had sent by his Spirit through the former prophets.
Therefore great anger came from the Lord of hosts. “As I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations that they had not known. Thus the land they left was desolate, so that no one went to and fro, and the pleasant land was made desolate.” Zechariah 7:8-14
There will come a time when the refusal of the heart to obey the Lord, His ways, and the Law will not be tolerated any longer. There will be a day when the Lord will give the stubborn evil heart over to the depravity of their own hearts to do nothing but wickedness. They will be condemned and there will be no more opportunity to come back to the Lord. He will not listen or pay attention to them because of the stubbornness and hardness of their heart.
Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. Romans 1:28-29
For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.
Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?
For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Hebrews 10:26-31
This applies even more to those who are leaders, pastors, teachers, and shepherds of God’s flock and proclaimers of the Word of God. You must be very careful about what you are doing. You will be held up to a much stricter standard before God and will be held accountable for your behavior and the condition of your heart.
Nothing is hidden in the sight of God. Everything is laid bare and naked before the Lord, even to the thoughts inward motivations of the heart are seen and judged by the Lord God Almighty.
Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:13
He has spoken a very serious and grave warning. Feed His sheep and do not deceive yourself in thinking you will get away with any evil intention, thought, or action.
For the household gods utter nonsense, and the diviners see lies; they tell false dreams and give empty consolation. Therefore the people wander like sheep; they are afflicted for lack of a shepherd. “My anger is hot against the shepherds, and I will punish the leaders; for the Lord of hosts cares for his flock, the house of Judah, and will make them like his majestic steed in battle.” Zechariah 10:2-3
He has been watching you, He has been taking notes, He has been patient, but that time has come to an end. If the Lord is speaking to your heart right now no matter what the reason, repent, and turn back from your sins. The Lord will forgive the meek, lowly, and humble heart. But His wrath will burn against the proud and haughty spirit, and in the end, there will only be trouble, suffering, and tears. Turn to the Lord that He may forgive, cleanse, heal, and restore you to His favor, into a right and holy relationship with the Lord.
Those who do what is right, obey, and follow the Lord will receive their reward. He will hear their cry and will stand next to them, encircling them on all sides delivering and protecting them. His loving-kindness and compassion for His true children are steadfast and unmovable. His praise will be on their lips.
1 Be not silent, O God of my praise! 2 For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me, speaking against me with lying tongues. 3 They encircle me with words of hate, and attack me without cause.
4 In return for my love they accuse me, but I give myself to prayer. 5 So they reward me evil for good, and hatred for my love.
21 But you, O God my Lord, deal on my behalf for your name’s sake; because your steadfast love is good, deliver me! 22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is stricken within me.
26 Help me, O Lord my God! Save me according to your steadfast love! 27 Let them know that this is your hand; you, O Lord, have done it! 30 With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord; I will praise him in the midst of the throng. 31 For He stands at the right hand of the needy one, to save him from those who condemn his soul to death. Psalm 109:1-5,21-22,26-27,30-31
