Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

Turn your eyes upon Jesus; turn your heart to the Lord. Raise your head, and do not be cast down in your soul. Do not turn your face away, for He has not turned away from you. Do not say in your heart, “I am cast off, I am left all alone, and I will never rise again!” Be assured He is there and is waiting for you to look to Him for your strength. Open your mouth, praise Him, receive Him by faith, and He will deliver you.

The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all. Psalm 34:18-19

Remember who is in control: in your sorrow, grief, and struggle. Remember who the Lord Jesus is. He is God, and He is seated on the throne. Everything has been placed under His feet, in His full control.

He is the One who separated the Red Sea so Israel could walk on dry land. He is the one who caused the whole walls of Jericho to fall with a shout. He is the One who used a youth, David, and a small smooth stone to take down a giant. To bring about the saving of an entire nation. He is the One who created the whole Universe with a Word.

As the old hymn writer Helen Howarth Lemmel wrote, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.” When you focus on Jesus, He is the One that makes things clear, and the worries of this world fade away.

The Lord will be with you wherever you go. His plan will be perfected through your steadfastness and endurance when you move forward by faith. He will lead, guide, direct, and protect you in everything you do. You may not know what to do or where to go. But He does. So keep your eyes upon Jesus. Fix your gaze and focus on His will in every situation, no matter how difficult or hopeless. He will turn all things into good by His mighty hand.

Jesus said, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20

Do not look to the right or the left. Soak up God’s Word daily, meditating on it day and night, pray, and seek His face continually. He is there, He is listening, and He is with you always. So trust Him by faith, and He will always care for you.

Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses, my servant, commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:7-9
