Turn your eyes upon Jesus, turn your heart to the Lord. Lift your eyes and look upon Him. Raise your head up and do not be cast down, do not turn away your face. Do not say in your heart, “I am cast off, I am left alone, I will never rise again!” He is there and is waiting for you to lift your head and look to Him for your strength. Open your mouth and praise Him and He will deliver.
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all. Psalm 34:18-19
In your sorrow and in your grief and struggle remember who is in control. Remember who the Lord is and who is seated on the throne.
He is the One who separated the Red Sea so Israel could walk on dry land. He is the one who caused the whole walls of Jericho to fall with a shout. He is the One who used a youth, David and a small smooth stone to take down a giant, to bring about the defeat of the Philistines. He is the One who created the Universe with a Word.
As the old songwriter, Helen Howarth Lemmel wrote in, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus.” He is the One, when you focus on Him makes everything else strangely dim.
O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion
For more than conquerors we are!
His Word shall not fail you, He promised;
Believe Him and all will be well;
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!
The Lord will be with you wherever you go. He will not leave you or forsake you. He will lead, guide, direct, and protect you. But keep your eyes upon Jesus always, and in every situation no matter how difficult or hopeless it may seem.
Do not look to the right or the left. Soak up His Word daily, meditating on it day and night, pray and seek His face continually. He is there, He is listening, He is with you always, and He takes care of those He loves.
Jesus said, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20
7 Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
