When You Give You Give To The Lord

What has happened to the people of this world we live in? Why do they do their business daily without regard for the least of our society? Most people do not care for the poor, hungry, needy, and broken, even if they are reasonable, honest, and trustworthy. I am not saying that there are no people who help others. Still, compared to the population as a whole, very few people help one another, not to mention the lack of care for the ways of God.

Most people have their family, home, job, comforts, and everything the Lord has graciously provided. He blesses all people with many good things. But they don’t give Him credit for it.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17

What have you done with what you have been given? Do you look around at the less fortunate and figure out how you could help them? Do you see the less fortunate’s pain, suffering, and hunger? Do you sacrifice and open your hands or wallet to help those in need? Do you seek guidance and the pull from God to help when the opportunity arises? Remember that God loves a cheerful giver and rewards those who do His will.

These are excellent questions to stop and consider. How often do we spend all we gain from a paycheck, not sparing any to help those in need? Think about all the possessions that you have. Do you really need all that stuff? I guarantee you could survive and thrive with much less. I, for one, can attest to this fact. After all, think of how little people had 150 years ago and were ok with it.

As it is, everything you have acquired is only temporary. The Bible describes our lives as a mist here for a moment and gone the next. The wealth of this world is very similar. You will never be able to take one thing from this world to the grave. As they say, “here today, gone tomorrow.” Since God rewards the faithful giver, why keep it for yourself? How will you spend what the Lord has given you for yourself or help others?

Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist. When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven. Proverbs 23:4-5

Open your eyes and hands to those around you who are genuinely in need. Look to the Lord for what you should do with it. Not to the religious organizations and those already well-off and prosperous. If you give to others with a pure heart, you, in fact, are giving to the Lord God. He sees what is done in secret and out of purity and will reward it.

Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Matthew 19:21

Give to those who are hurting, poor, voiceless, in bondage, and broken. Especially give to those who have nothing. God especially wants us to give to those seeking to serve the Lord with every fiber of their being, with everything they have, and more.

Those who deserve help most are the faithful followers of Christ who seek to honor the Lord with their lives. Many may not understand, but these people devoted to serving those in need are willing to have nothing of this world. Yet, they give everything to serve God, no matter how much they had before or may or may not gain in the future.

God favors those who lay down their lives for others and for the sake of the call they have received from Him. They are highly honored in His eyes, and at the right time, He will reward them for their faithful service. Understand that it doesn’t take wealth to do great things but availability, willingness, and a giving heart. If all you have is one dollar to give to the poor, He smiles at your generous heart.

Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Luke 6:30 And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it fails, they may receive you into the eternal dwellings. Luke 16:9

Stop spending your money on the worthless things of this world. Stop consuming it for yourself, your selfish needs, or your own gain. Honestly, you are gaining nothing. Yes, you heard me correctly. You earn nothing for eternity when you horde what you have for yourself. It ends up being a complete waste.

“Why do you spend money for what is not bread And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And delight yourself in abundance. Isaiah 55:2

Jesus instructed all mankind to build up treasures in Heaven with what they have now. Give to the Lord by giving to those who genuinely need it. What you give to the least of these, you give to the Lord. Let the Lord have your entire life, world, and all you have. Give it all for the furtherance of the Kingdom of God.

Do this, and you will have great treasures in Heaven. Not only that, but you will be honored by the hosts of Heaven and God Himself when you finally arrive there. What an honor it will be when He greets you into His Glory and showers you with the rewards you have earned by being a cheerful giver to those in need.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21

So thankful of the reminder that what we get is well spent on others not ourselves. Thanks for the reminder.
