Born Again

Have you ever heard the phrase, “You must be born again?” How can that happen? Is that even possible?

Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3

In the Bible, a well-known religious leader, Nicodemus, wondered the same thing. He thought he had to return to his mother’s womb to be born again. But Jesus spoke of being born again in the Spirit, not the flesh.

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3:5-6

To be worthy of Heaven after you die, you must have been born again in the Spirit of God while you were living. Jesus paid the penalty for your sins so that you may go to Heaven. But you must turn away from your sins. You must be made a new creation through the power of the Holy Spirit and be made clean by the power of Jesus’ sacrificial blood. Repentance is necessary to come into the right relationship with God. You cannot be born again unless you repent and turn from your life of sinful rebellion against God. But if you do, God will turn your dead spirit into life through the Spirit of the Lord God.

If you repent, turn from your sinful lifestyle, and ask Jesus Christ to forgive you, He will. He will give you a new heart and spirit to have eternal life. You will no longer desire to sin and disobey God’s commands but will desire what is good and holy. This is what happens when you are born again. You become a completely new person through Jesus Christ. You will live as you have never before. Your destination will be Heaven instead of hell as a reward for your obedience to God. How great is that?

So, turn to Jesus today. Cry out to Him for forgiveness and repent of all your sins. He will forgive and fill you with the Holy Spirit, giving you rebirth into the family of God.

And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. Ezekiel 36:26-27
