“Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for God has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
It is not about having money but loving it more than you trust in God by faith. Unfortunately, many depend on the things of this world and the wealth they possess instead of putting their trust in God.
But the humble of heart trusted God for their next morsel of bread and a roof over their head. Their faith was strong, and they depended on Him for everything because they had nothing but Him. For this reason, God chooses the poor, needy, and lowly to exult in His high positions. God chooses the “nobodies” of society to accomplish great works of faith, those with a pure and humble heart willing to do anything for Him.
God has declared that the humble will shame the rich, proud, and worldly wise of this world and, in the sight of God, make the boastful and arrogant look like fools for trusting their wealth. Therefore, the wealth of this world will soon corrode in their hands and be blown away by the wind.
Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness! The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what good is wealth—except perhaps to watch it slip through your fingers! Ecclesiastes 5:10-11
What good is money? God has given us money and possessions so that we can help others and be like Jesus, who gave everything that He may possess, everything that has true importance. Everything, that is, that has eternal value. You will never take anything of material wealth or any possession into eternity. But you can receive a reward from God that will be stored up for you for when you get there. A reward that will never be taken away and that will never run out. Isn’t it more important to use what you have for others and the Master of the Universe, Jesus Christ? In the end, the reward will far outweigh the sacrifices you had to make to earn it in Heaven.
No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. Matthew 6:24
