Have you ever heard it said, “Today is the day of Salvation?” You may not know what that means, and even more so, you may not understand why you would need to be saved at all. Trust me; you are not alone. To the average citizen of this planet, there just doesn’t seem to be any imminent danger in sight. Why would anyone need to be saved? Salvation from what?
Most people would even declare that they are just fine. Their life is going ok; they are happy the way things are, and they don’t need any help from anyone. Others desperately seek a helping hand from all the wrong sources, and even when they are in need, their pride does not allow them to accept the real help they need. However, each of us has a greater need for help than we realize, yet at the same time, the vast majority ignore it.
There is more to this life than how you feel at this moment or how satisfied you are with the possessions you have or the money you have stored in your bank account. There is much more than the likes and followers you may have on social media. Deep down, everyone knows there is more to life than a good job, food on the table, and a roof over our heads. Each of us longs for more than what our hands can hold, tangible, or the approval that we may receive from total strangers. We want good relationships, love, appreciation, joy, understanding, peace, compassion, healing, and hope.
The problem is, where do love, joy, and peace come from? I can tell you right now that they all come from God. Every aspect of morality and peace comes from the Lord since He has stamped His standard on our hearts, which is why we even know right or wrong. He is the one who created all things, even goodness, kindness, and compassion, and has given each of us a conscience that we intrinsically know the difference between good and evil, right and wrong. This is also the reason why we will have no excuses when we stand before Him on the day of Judgment.
As it has been said, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way;” “Like the blind we grope along the wall, like people without eyes we feel our way. We stumble at midday as if at twilight, among the vigorous, we are like the dead.” and “All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”
Yet, though we are all guilty of sin, God is merciful. Because of God’s great love, mercy, and grace, He has made a way for you to be redeemed from your wrongs, which is breaking His Law that He calls sin. Though you have been rebellious and have chosen to lie, steal, hate, lust, disobey authority, covenant, or even curse God Himself, He is forgiving. He is patient and waits for you to turn back to Him with a humble heart and repent.
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
So, will God destroy us all in Hell? As some have asked. By no means. God loves every one of us and has made a way for you to be saved from Hell and the judgment to come. He has sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to live and die as the perfect sacrifice or payment for all your sins. But you do have to choose; everyone has a choice, either His narrow path that leads to Heaven or every other way that leads to destruction.
John 3:16-21 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son(Jesus), that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”
Understand what the end of these verses is saying. Most people do not come to Jesus for the forgiveness of their sins because they fear the evil they have done will be exposed, knowing that their sin is, in fact, wrong. They know this because of their conscience. Conversely, if you humble yourself before God and repent, turning away from your life of sin to obey and follow Jesus, He will forgive you. Not only that, but Jesus will heal your heart, soul, and mind. Because of His great love for you, He will make you into a new man or woman. Changing you from the inside out to feel the love, peace, and hope you have always desired.
1 Peter 2:24 He(Jesus) Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds, you have been healed.
So God is calling to you and is declaring that “today is the day of Salvation!” Today is the day you should turn and look to Him to save you. Today, humble your heart, look at your sins, and realize you have committed these offenses against the one who loves you. But like a good father, He will accept and forgive you if you repent and return to His arms.
2 Corinthians 6:2 For He says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
What are you waiting for? You have not been promised one more day on this earth. But you have a promise from God the Father that if you come to Jesus Christ for Salvation, He will surely not turn you away.
Hebrews 3:7-11 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years. Therefore, I was provoked with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart; they have not known my ways.’ As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest.'”
John 6:35-40 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from Heaven, not to do my own will but the will of Him who sent me.
And this is the will of Him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that He has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in Him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
Finally, Jesus said in John 10:27-30 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
